This is the model that I mocked up in my room. The final version will be bamboo. This one is made out of toilet paper rolls. .... when inspiration strikes ....
Here is the first model I had in PVC
This is after the PVC was built to stand up on its own.
Here's the first time I got water flowing through it. I've also got a couple pieces of bamboo in this model. Eventually, the whole thing will be bamboo.
The pump is installed, This is the first one with a movie. Click on the picture to download the movie.
Right now, I'm working on replacing the PVC with bamboo. I've learned some important lessons.
  1. Safety equipment is cumbersome and annoying, until a spinning blade explodes into fragments of flying shrapnel. Then it all makes sense.
  2. "Measure Twice, Cut Once.", and if I'm cutting bamboo, "Measure 4 times, Cut Once." Bamboo is expensive, and if I don't pay attention to the natural cross-sections the first three times I measure, I might notice them the fourth; before I spend 90 minutes splitting a piece of bamboo only to find that the placement of the cross-sections makes the pieces useless.
  3. If I spend 90 minutes cutting anything, I'm using the wrong tool.

Almost all of the bamboo is cut and joined. The pump is running. We're nearly there.

Here's the fountain at night. The picture is compliments of our neighbor on the Playa, Bucky.
And here's what it looked like during the day.
